  • Temporomandibular joints
  • occlusion

Joint pain, headaches, bruxism, grinding - we know the answers to these problems.

Symptoms of masticatory dysfunction can include joint and muscle pain, hearing disorders, periodontal atrophy related to tooth overload, enamel defects (so-called “cervicals”), macerations and sores on the cheek mucosa. Cicatrices, macerations and sores on the buccal mucosa, acoustic symptoms: crackles and pops, jaw deviation, difficulty chewing hard foods, biting large bites, clenching or grinding of teeth (bruxism), toothaches with no apparent cause, as well as headaches and neck pain.

The occurrence of such symptoms suggests the need to visit a specialist who can make a correct diagnosis and undertake effective treatment.

Treatment of these disorders requires a multispecialty approach, but in all cases it is essential to restore normal occlusion and bring the temporomandibular joints into central relation (CR). Depending on the case, we achieve this with prosthetic, conservative, orthodontic, surgical treatment, occlusal splint therapy, or a combination of the above, each time using Dawson Academy‘s proven protocol.

We diagnose temporomandibular joint disorders based on Piper‘s consistent excellent classification, using both imaging (CT, MRI), auscultatory methods of diagnosis with Doppler probes and physiotherapeutic methods.

Treatment may include restoration of normal occlusion, pharmacological treatment, physiotherapy and vices, occlusal splint therapy and surgical treatment (we recommend one leading temporomandibular joint surgery center in the US).

In addition to restoring normal occlusion, we use physiotherapy and, in justified cases, drug treatment.
